Our Mission

Our mission is to develop a community where people of all ages, nationalities, religions, and genders
can express themselves through movement by building up and empowering the dancer within
through knowledge, friendship and acceptance.

Desert Journey is a drama-free zone.
Our goal is to build one another up, creating a safe space for all,
bringing encouragement and connection to each individual.

Our Goals

Enjoyable and Educational

We design belly dance classes to be fun while learning dance technique in a judgement-free environment. Whether you want to get out of the house to do a fun activity, or you want to be a professional belly dancer, we are here to help you with your journey.

Props, Techniques and Workshops

We offer a variety of technique classes and workshops designed to increase your dance skills. Some of these specialized classes include Floorwork, Isolation Skillz & Drillz, Stage Presence, and Sewing. We love accenting dance with prop technique such as Fans (hand, fan-veil, and fan-voi), Isis Wings, Ribbon, Sword, Veils, Voi, Zills (finger cymbals) and more.

Physical Fitness

We aim to increase your strength, flexibility, and
overall fitness. We have fun and challenging fitness classes such as Belly Burn 'Boda Bootcamp, BollyX, and Yoga. We will work with you on your fitness goals in a friendly, inviting atmosphere.

To see all the classes we offer, visit our All Classes and view the Styles and Props pages.

A Vibrant and Full Community

Desert Journey dancers perform at festivals and functions throughout Utah and surrounding states.  They also host the Utah Summer Dance Festival, a free multicultural festival held in August.

FAQs

Wear something comfortable and movable which allows for stretching and proper movement.  Students commonly wear yoga pants, pajama pants or leggings and a T-shirt, tank top, or sports bra.

Please visit our Pricing page for the current prices.

Some students want to challenge themselves in a higher level group, but are not ready to perform or do not meet the requirements of the performing group.  Students can take a performing group as a “class” where they will learn the choreography/technique but will not be placed into formations or be able to perform.

No. We want you to feel comfortable in class and you are not required to show your stomach unless you choose to.

No, there are several instructional classes where performing is not required. We also have some beginning groups where performance is optional. Please speak with your teacher if you are interested in a performing group.

The teacher will likely introduce you to the class and have the students introduce themselves.  Most students take off shoes and socks and dance barefoot. (Some students wear dance shoes or special foot support.) The class will warm up with some stretching or movement or maybe a fun dance to get your body warm.  The teacher will follow with instruction on new movement, review posture and any formations, and may review moves from previous weeks as needed.  The class will conclude with a cool down or stretching. Please notify your teacher if you have any injuries or pain.

Some of the beginning performing groups have a “performance optional” status which means that you can take that as just an instructional or recreational class, or you can perform if you want. You can also choose to take a higher level performing group as just an instructional class. (You will not be able to perform until you meet the prerequisites for the group.)

You can either fill out the Registration Form or you can come a few minutes early to class and we can register you there.
